The Word from Zion in Hebrew

The word of God was originally written in Hebrew, and now it’s making a full circle: the gospel is being proclaimed in Israel, in the Hebrew language. There have always been faithful messengers ready to bring the Good News of the gospel of peace throughout the ages, but this last generation has seen a real acceleration in Israel.

Over the last two decades in particular, the Gospel in the Hebrew language has been made more accessible than ever to Israelis through the internet. Our Hebrew websites and YouTube channel have become more popular than we could ever have imagined, with 821,000 subscribers to our channel, and millions of visits and views. When you consider that there are only approximately 9 million Hebrew speakers on the planet, that’s quite remarkable!

In addition to proclaiming the Gospel on the internet, it’s also important to share the good news about Yeshua in Hebrew face to face, in a personal way.

Following the Great Light

The people who walked in darkness
    have seen a great light;
those who dwelt in a land of deep darkness,
    on them has light shone.
(Isaiah 9:2)

During the Hanukkah holiday, we held a special event in Hebrew, just for women to celebrate the great light that came to the world, as promised by the prophet Isaiah. The gathering, held in the hills of Judea near where it all began, made the connection between the great light Isaiah spoke of with the coming of the true Light of the World.

There was music, good food, activities, and of course the message was given in Hebrew. Here in the picture below is Sisi Soref, wife of Dr. Erez Soref, telling the crowd the good news about the Light of the World in her mother tongue: Hebrew. Sisi is the fifth generation of Messianic Jewish believers, and has a great passion for reaching her people. She didn’t hold back!

My non-believing friends really enjoyed it!” said one lady who attended. “Please pray for those who were there, that they will seek after the Light of the world.”

“The message was extremely clear,” she added.

…And also to the Greek

But of course, the Gospel is not just for the Jews, it’s also for the Gentiles! The Hebrew Scriptures may have been written in the Hebrew language, but significantly, the New Covenant was written in Greek. Greek was seen as “Gentile”, and the fact that the Gospel went out in Greek was like a symbol of Good News going out to the whole world.

“For I am not ashamed of the gospel, for it is the power of God for salvation to everyone who believes, to the Jew first and also to the Greek.” (Romans 1:16)

There are more than two million gentiles in Israel, mostly Arabic speakers, so we also had a Gospel outreach event in Arabic, with Hebrew translation for the Jewish people who came. As well as proclaiming the Gospel in Hebrew and in Arabic at these holiday outreaches, impacting many lives of people who came, we are able to reach far more through the internet.

Our Arabic outreach videos are also seen by huge numbers throughout the Muslim world, and we have just broken through another milestone with our Arabic language YouTube channel, getting yet another award from YouTube! However, more important than any accolade the world may give is the fruit of our labor, in partnership with all those who have joined with us to bring the Gospel to Israel, and of course the mighty power of God Himself.

As we proclaim the Gospel, together in partnership with you, God is powerfully at work, drawing people to Himself. We have been overjoyed to see many Jews and Arabs coming to faith.

Please pray for all those who have heard the Good News — for the seeds of the Gospel to take root and grow, and for many to become fruitful disciples of Yeshua.

Please also pray for our ongoing work in this new year: May God continue to work mightily in Israel, to direct us, infill and empower us, and to draw many more Jewish and Arab people to Himself.
