The Land of Israel is very unusual. It’s a country where heaven and earth meet in a special way. You can dig up real relics that testify that the Bible is fact, not fiction, connecting spiritual stories with tangible earthly realities.
“We often separate the spiritual from the material world, but God does not,” Dr. Erez Soref teaches in the new series on Nehemiah.
“Nehemiah and the Israelites would work with stones, cement, and tools of iron to accomplish God’s purposes. They would partner with God to accomplish a very physical task, with very supernatural help,” he adds.
Nehemiah and his contemporaries were rebuilding Jerusalem which had to be in place for the Messiah’s first coming. Now we are seeing the set up in the Land of Israel for the second coming. God has regathered His ancient people back to the land of their forefathers after 2,000 years, and the stones are crying out — welcoming them home.
Discoveries in the Land of Israel
Before the outpouring of the Holy Spirit at Pentecost sent the Good News out to every nation, the story of the Bible was firmly tethered to the Land of Israel. Trudging through deserts, digging wells, building walls and fighting enemies… so it’s not surprising that the story of the Bible, Israel and God’s plan for humanity can be literally be found in the ground in archaeological digs.

So much has already been found in the layers beneath our feet here in the Land of Israel:
– A jug with Gideon’s name on it
– The remains of 211 Philistines in a graveyard
– The charred evidence of the Babylonian destruction of Jerusalem
– A pillar that mentions Judea from the time of the Romans
– A first century synagogue beside the Sea of Galilee with an eyewitness representation of the temple menorah
– Fragments of purple cloth from the time of King Solomon
– Numerous seals with names of Bible characters on them
– The first century road pilgrims walked on up to the temple has just been made open to the public
– And recently one of the 2,700 year old Lachish reliefs has been identified as showing not only Jerusalem but also King Hezekiah
… and much, much more — the list is long!
Dinesh D’Souza recently talked about the importance of archeological discoveries in the Land of Israel that back up the Bible:
“The power of this biblical archeology is that at the time when the world has become more secular, it’s almost as if we’re getting it’s almost like God is sending us a message, but this time, not in the thunderous language of Moses or Abraham, but through the quiet whisperers of stones and forensic evidence in stone inscriptions, artefacts, writing on pottery, all this kind of stuff,” he said while being interviewed in Jerusalem.
“Been here all along”
On his first trip to Israel in 2022, D’Souza was so impacted by what he found that he was inspired to write a book combining his interests in biblical archaeology and prophecy to show that the events of Scripture really happened.
“When I saw these things coming out of the ground that are authenticating the Hebrew scripture is going back 4,000 years, the first thing that occurred to me was, why isn’t this being shouted from the rooftops of every synagogue in every church?”
“It all seemed to me to be very powerful evidence establishing the presence of the Jews and their ancestral homeland,” he said. “This is one way you have legitimate title deeds to a country,” he continued, expressing his conviction that the people of Israel belonged in the Land of Israel.
“You get legitimate title deeds to a country, in my opinion, only three ways,” he said, pointing out the way that maps of the world are drawn:
- One way you get a country is you’ve been there all along. You were there first.
- Number two, you can get a country by some negotiation or some treaty.
- The third way is by winning land through battle.
“Israel checks all the boxes,” he told those gathered for the International Conference on anti-Semitism in Jerusalem. “The Jews were here first. They’ve been here for 4,000 years,” he said, addressing the first point. Moving to the second and points, he asserted, “They got it by treaty from the UN after World War II, and the Jews have fought multiple wars in 1948, 1967, 1973, and held the land… So whichever box you want to check, it seems to me that in that since Israel has the firmest claim to this land as perhaps any other country on planet Earth.”
When talking about the significance of the Land of Israel, D’Souza discussed the phenomenon of antisemitism and the escalation of hatred against the Jewish nation. He described how the hatred cannot be explained purely in secular terms, but that it has to be spiritual.

He shared his belief that envy explains some of the animosity towards Israel, but added,
“There’s a second thing going on, and that is that Satan is in a campaign against God, but he can’t overthrow God. And so he needs to go to plan B… Satan’s malice against them is a revenge scheme against the Creator himself. Apply this logic now to the Jews. There is the motive of envy which are mentioned, but the Jews have also been God’s chosen people. The mechanism by which you can say the moral law is transmitted to the world through the Jews.”
“If you believe that there is a cosmic battle between good and evil that rages in the world, then it is not out of the question that what we are seeing in antisemitism is truly a kind of scheme by none other than the devil himself, to torment the Jews as a form of revenge against God,” he said.
The challenge on the ground
“Whenever God’s people march on with God’s plan, the representatives of God’s enemy attempt to block, choke, and stop that movement,” says Dr. Soref, teaching about the relevance of Nehemiah today.
“Not surprisingly, this story is a picture of what’s happening today with God’s people, Israel.”

“We saw the miracle of our nation born in a day. We see the land and economy flourishing for the first time in centuries. Over the past hundred years, millions of Jewish people have returned home. Yet, we have faced constant opposition from our neighbors and the world. There is more scrutiny and criticism of Israel than any other nation on earth. In today’s climate, as we see antisemitism rise again throughout the world, we must recognize the closer we come to the fulfillment of God’s ultimate plan, the more we will see the opposition of the enemy working against God’s people.”
Jonathan Conricus, a former spokesperson for Israel during the beginning of the October 7th War, told Dr. Soref,
“One of the biggest challenges we’ve faced today, beyond being surrounded by lots of enemies and people who want to kill us in the real world, is hatred and fake news, and a lot of vitriol.”
Dr Soref asked Conricus whether he thought Israel is hated for spiritual reasons, rather than for any logical reason, “not really because of who Israel is, but because of the God of Israel.”
“I think there’s a very strong grounds to believe that, because it defines a lot of logic,” Jonathan agreed.
“It isn’t logical. Like when you look at the amount of attention that Israel gets, it is abnormal. Where are people fighting for our independence in our ancient homeland. Why do people care so much?”
But God’s plans and purposes will always be resisted by Satan. If the first coming of Jesus required a land, a family, and a physical environment to enter into, so it will be for His glorious return. The geo-political landscape is shifting into place and lining up for the exact scenario foretold in the Bible, but there is a great battle as God prepares the way. This time it’s not just dusty relics that testify to the truth of the Bible — we are watching it all happening before our eyes.
