He has remembered his lovingkindness and his faithfulness to the house of Israel; all the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God” (Ps 98:3).
The “Haman Campaign” (see Esth 3:8) of “truths, half-truths, and lies” about Israel is causing an alarming number of Christians to view the Jewish people as a threat. To be clear, no nation on earth is perfect, and political leaders must always be held accountable. But legitimate concerns are quickly giving way to mass hysteria. Because the Haman Campaign strategically (and diabolically) plays upon religious, political, and economic fears, some are either saying out loud, or at least thinking in their hearts, “It is not in the king’s interest to let them remain.”
But Psalm 98 (and many other passages of Scripture) ought to compel every Bible-believing Christian to put aside all ill will and any desire for harm to come to the people of Israel, and to long instead for their salvation. Why? Because there is a principle as sure as gravity: whenever God “remembers his lovingkindness and faithfulness to the house of Israel,” the nations share in the blessings.
It’s high time Christians stop falling prey to the hypnotic effect of the Haman Campaign and start being genuinely biblical.
Notice the connection between Psalm 98:3 and the verses that follow. When the ends of the earth see the salvation of Israel (v. 3), they “shout joyfully to the LORD” (v. 4a), “break forth and sing for joy and sing praises” (v. 4b), “sing praises to the LORD with the lyre” (v. 5), “trumpet” (v. 6a), and “shout joyfully before the King, the LORD” (v. 6b).
Who are these goyim (nations) who praise God for and together with Israel? They are those whom God has chosen to be his people in order to provoke Israel to jealousy (Deut 32:21). They are the nations commanded to provoke Israel to praise God (Deut 32:43). And lest you think the New Testament sees things differently, it’s time to reread Romans a bit more carefully (see Rom 10:19; 11:11, 13–14; 15:10).
So let’s return to where we began. It’s high time Christians stop falling prey to the hypnotic effect of the Haman Campaign and start being genuinely biblical. For the people who will benefit most when God fulfills his promises to Israel are the Gentiles!
