Notice who is not there

“The Lord grant mercy to the house of Onesiphorus, for he often refreshed me and was not ashamed of my chains; but when he was in Rome, he eagerly searched for me and found me” (2 Tim 1:16-17).

Onesiphorus is only mentioned twice in Scripture (2 Tim 1:16; 4:19), so we know precious little about him. But the church most certainly needs more people like him! These are the folks who have a built-in “missing people radar.” They not only notice who is at the meetings. More importantly, they notice who isn’t there. And like a Saint Bernard sent out on a rescue mission, they eagerly seek for those who are missing in action and do not rest till they find them. If you are one of those people who noticed who wasn’t at the meeting this past weekend, then maybe this is a sign that God is also calling you to go find that person, and bring him or her some desperately needed spiritual refreshments!

“For I have no one else of kindred spirit who will genuinely be concerned for your welfare” (Phil 2:20).
