God’s unstoppable word

“Micaiah said, ‘If you indeed return safely the LORD has not spoken by me.’ And he said, ‘Listen, all you people.’ So the king of Israel and Jehoshaphat king of Judah went up against Ramoth-gilead. The king of Israel said to Jehoshaphat, ‘I will disguise myself and go into the battle, but you put on your robes.’ So the king of Israel disguised himself and went into the battle… Now a certain man drew his bow at random and struck the king of Israel in a joint of the armor. So he said to the driver of his chariot, ‘Turn around and take me out of the fight; for I am severely wounded'” (1 Kings 22:28-30, 34).

King Ahab did his best to prevent God’s words about him from coming true. He wore a disguise, thinking that the word from God’s word mouth would somehow miss its intended target. He was dead wrong. And no matter how much we try to go with the flow and blend in with the world, no matter how much we live as if God’s word isn’t accurate, his promises and warnings will always accomplish their divine purpose and reach their intended goal. For all the armies on earth and all our clever disguises will not prevent God’s all-powerful “Let there be” (Gen 1:3, 6, 14) from becoming “and it was so.” Rather than fighting against God’s word, let us receive it, believe it, and enjoy every one of his blessed promises.

“For as the rain and the snow come down from heaven, and do not return there without watering the earth and making it bear and sprout, and furnishing seed to the sower and bread to the eater; so will My word be which goes forth from My mouth; it will not return to Me empty, without accomplishing what I desire, and without succeeding in the matter for which I sent it” (Isa 55:10-11).

“For the word of God is living and active and sharper than any two-edged sword, and piercing as far as the division of soul and spirit, of both joints and marrow, and able to judge the thoughts and intentions of the heart. And there is no creature hidden from His sight, but all things are open and laid bare to the eyes of Him with whom we have to do” (Heb 4:12-13).
